Farming practices for a better baltic
A major solution to the problem of eutrophication lies in the adoption of more sustainable farming practices. Together with farmers and other experts from across the Baltic Sea region, WWF has identified a number of key sustainable farming practices that make a difference. These include methods that are focused on keeping nutrients and water on land, utilizing fertilizers more efficiently, and reducing runoff.
Meet the previous regional winner
In 2021, Sauli Brander received the Regional Baltic Sea Farmer Award in recognition of a commitment to best practices and constant progress in nature-friendly farming at Lisko Farm. The Lisko Farm checks all the boxes when it comes to the recommended farming practices, while serving as an excellent example of how successful crop production and environmental protection can coexist.

About the award
The WWF Baltic Sea Farmer of the Year Award was first introduced in 2009 with the goal of inspiring farmers and decision-makers across the region to take action to save the Baltic Sea. Every competition year, juries select national winners from countries in the Baltic Sea catchment area and from that one grand prize regional winner.
